Lot description

Various sizes and papers, including 27 very small size pieces printed on 9 sheets; signed or not signed, some dated (versos brown., upper part of King of Bohemia browning).

Mounted on 6 larger sheets. Good general condition.

A large part of the 90 engraved works of J.-P. Norblin de La Gourdaine (1745-1830), French-born painter, draughtsman and engraver. From 1774 to 1804 he resided in Poland where he obtained citizenship. He is considered one of the most important painters of the Enlightenment in Poland. Our set contains i.a. 2 self-portraits, the large plate "King of Bohemia", the plate "Alexandre and Diogenes", an old man writing, a girl reading, the resurrection of Lazarus (small), 2 bagpipe players, 2 landscapes and numerous smaller motives such as heads, beggars, Polish characters, etc.
