Lot description
Drawing, pen and black ink with grey wash, 35 x 53,5 cm, laid paper, unsigned (laid down on cardb., large vert. folding crease at centre, several brown stains, upper and lower left corners torn).
A vivid depiction of festivities in honour of Bacchus, with at the left centre a representation of the drunken Silenos. Satyrs are playing flute and a chariot with Ariadne is pulled by leopards. A wide variety of gods associated with astrological signs occupies the skies above the Bacchanal. Probably Italian.
