Lot description
Folio : engr. title, 35 (of 36) maps mounted on stubs (without ff. A-A2 with the general XVII Provinces map).
Mod. calf, gilt titled spine on 7 raised bands, red edges (lower cover made of 2 leather parts, very sl. rubbed top, tail & bands). Very good but incompl. copy.
2nd part of the 1st part of the universal atlas by Blaeu. With 35 maps mentioned in the (loosely inserted) index, all mounted on stubs. This part dealing with the Low Countries includes Brabant, Louvain, Liège, Luxemburg, Flanders, Malines, Gelderlandt, Zeeland, Utrecht, Groningen, Overyssel etc. Beautiful title showing a classical architectural framework flanked by a nun and a musketeer. At top are 2 allegorical fig. holding coats-of-arms with Mars at center with letterpress title and imprint on pasted-on label. Ref. Cp.van der Krogt II 2:221-4., 2:21B.
