Lot description

Drawing, graphite, 17,2 x 14 cm, vellum paper, signed and dated in graphite at lower right corner "A. Dillens 1837" (laid down on paper mount, foxing).

Dillens (1821-1877) was a Belgian genre painter and portraitist, and a close friend of Charles De Coster. He was admired for his evocations of Flanders' medieval past. A charming youthful drawing featuring a walking soldier in 17th-c. attire. With coll. number 4.
Joined: Idem - Knight leaning against a tree. Watercolour, 25 x 17 cm, vellum paper, signed with Gothic monogram "AD" (laid down on paper mount). (2 pcs)
