Lot description
Etching, 68,5 x 47 cm, laid paper, signed in the plate at lower left "Romijn deHooghe fecit" (lower right corner torn at margin, some minor tears in edges, large horiz. folding crease at center, some stains).
Allegory on the succession of the Imperial throne from Leopold I of Austria to Joseph I, in 1687. Leopold I is seen riding a chariot, passing over the crown of the Kingdom of Hungary to Joseph I. The chariot is pulled by conquered Turks and a cartouche at the lower centre shows the coronation in Presburg (Bratislava). Second and final state.
