Lot description

8vo: [24]-308-30-[2] pp. (paper age-toned, title soiled).

Old limp marbl. boards (rubbed, joints splitting).

Rare early history of Basel by the preacher, mathematics professor, and university librarian Chr. Wurstisen (1544-1588). It was reprinted in the "Scriptores rerum Basiliensium minores" (1752, German translation 1757). The "Epitome" includes the 1st ed. of a short description of Basel by the famous humanist Piccolomini Pope Pius II (1405-1464). Ill. with a folding woodcut map of Basel and a 2nd woodcut map "Icon portae Petrea in Ravracorum & Auenticorum confinibus". Woodcut mark at the end.
