Second corrected edition translated into English (first English ed. 1676) of Lamy's "De l'art de parler" (first, Paris, 1675). Lamy (1640-1715) was a French Oratorian, mathematician and theologian. Departing from the neoclassical rethoric of the late 17th c., "L'art de parler", was intended as a "scientific" account of how discourse works upon the mind (Theresa Enos, Encyclopedia of Rhetoric and Composition).
