Lot description

2 drawings, 43,5 x 61,5 and 35,5 x 51,5 cm, ink and watercolour; signed (illegible) (browned, spotted, a few tears).

1. Design for a chapel in Château Vilain XIIII, incl. a floor plan, 2 front views and two cross sections. - 2. Watercolour view of the choir with altar, tabernacle and stained glass window.
Although Château Vilain XIIII was largely renovated during the life of Count Charles Vilain XIIII himself and from 1822 until 1840 in particular, these drawings, by an unknown architect, were more likely commissioned when the French congregation "Les Dames du Sacré Coeur" started the construction of a supplementary castle wing in order to include a boarding school for girls shortly after World War I.
