Lot description
2 drawings, red chalk (sanguine) heightened with white, 30 x 21 cm, unsigned (large dampstain at upper right corner on one sheet, edges frayed, some creases around margins).
Loose sheets, mounted on book folio.
The first sheet represents three putti sitting and standing on clouds while playing music on a flute and on a tambourine. The second drawing shows two putti resting on clouds, holding snakes in their hands. The composition and style of the chubby angels is inspired by that of François Boucher (1703-1770). They were possibly made by an artist closely related to Boucher's workshop as they copy exact compositions from attributed Boucher drawings. Both sheets are mounted on a folio from the 3rd volume of "Het groot natuur- en zedekundigh werelttoneel of Woordenboek", published in Delft by R. Boitet in 1750.
