Lot description

Long Crendon, Buckinghamshire, Seven Acres Press, 1931

4to (some offsetting on endpapers and flylvs due to dust jacket, some faint offsetting in-text, some dispersed spots mostly towards the margins).

Publ. half beige cloth, blue covers, title on front, chamois paper dust jacket.

Edition limited to 155 copies (n. 20). Capital letters in red and green, woodcuts in-text and one full-page by Loyd Haberly. Printed in black, red and green throughout on handmade paper. Title page with heart ornaments in red. The series title "Oregon's Orpheus April" appears within a woodcut on page [ii]. The series was intended to consist of twelve books, one for each month of the year (starting with March), but only February and April (the present "second book") were issued, and one more volume, "Will of the winds", was partly printed (worldcat).
The Seven Acres Press was started in 1825 by Loyd Haberly at Seven Acres, Long Crendon, Bucks: "I took up printing as being a pleasing country craft affording a practical means of publishing my own writings and woodcuts, and inducing the profitable study of early and rare printed books".
