Lot description
8vo (a single faint spot).
Mod. half brown leather, decorative paper on covers, spine with 4 raised bands, black leather title label. Partly unopened and uncut nice copy.
From a ballad sheet of the year 1574 on the life of Henrick Niclaes (ca. 1502-1580), a German mystic and founder of the Christian sect "Familia Caritatis". Printed in red, blue and green on handmade paper, illustrations and versal letters engraved on wood by the printer, Loyd Haberly. Unnumb. copy. Haberly (1896-1981) was an American poet, letterpress printer and educator. "[I] spent a year building my printing house of stone and timbered work; a unique but satisfactory structure of my own building. My plan is to print and bind books which I have written and illustrated with woodcuts, with now and then some rare piece from my own or the Oxford libraries. I do everything in the printing and binding myself, and do not intend to employ assistants".
Ref. Ransom, p. 420.
