Contemp. sheep (sm. scratches), flat spine (rebacked), spr. edges.

New edition (1st 1805) of a successful treatise by the British mathematician Th. Keith (1759-1824). Complete with 6 engraved folding plates representing globes, armillary spheres, instruments, etc.; some diagrams in the text. The work deals with magnitude, motion of the earth, meteorology, astronomy, theory of the tides, etc. It ends with some "questions for the examination of the student". Keith was professor of geography to Princess Charlotte of Wales, and he also taught Princess Sophia Matilda. In 1814 he was appointed accountant to the British Museum.
