Lot description

Diameter: 30 cm, with 2 polar calottes and 12 chromolithographed gores (sm. depression in the earth's surface, a few repairs).

Mounted with a brass meridian, on a metal tripod, total height ca. 68 cm.

Very rare decorative French terrestrial globe with its moon, incl. a legend and indication of the overseas possessions. Published by the Deyrolle firm, specialised in taxidermy but also well known for its pedagogical charts. Although very rare, this type of mounting of the moon is present in German examples such as those from the Berlin planetaria maker Ernst Schotte, in the globes of the Parisian Ikelmer firm that used a very similar moon, and in those by the Brussels Lebegue. Furthermore, the cast iron base with its lion paw feet and moustachioed faces is a trademark of Lebegue.
