Drawing, graphite pencil, 19,5 x 13,3 cm, signed and date at lower left "F.S., 1855".

Under passe-partout, in wooden gilt frame (not studied outside frame).

View of Bruges, seen from the Nepomucenus bridge and Wolstraat. François Stroobant (1819-1916) was a Belgian painter and lithographer whose subjects were mainly landscapes and architecture. His romantic painting style stayed constant throughout his career. He was founder and first director in 1865 of the Académie des Beaux-Arts at Sint-Jans-Molenbeek in Brussels. His works are now in collections of the major Belgian museums such as Brussels, Bruges, and Ostend.
