Lot description

Oval engraving, 30,5 x 23,2 cm, laid paper, unsigned (trimmed to borderline).

Under oval passe-partout.

The kidnapping of Helen by the Trojan soldiers. Engraved by Jacob van der Heyden (1573-1645) after a design of his father Johannes van der Heyden. He worked and lived in Brussels, Frankfurt, Nuremberg and was known for his portraits and history paintings. Only known state.
Ref. Not in Hollstein.
Joined: Anonymous. After Primaticcio - "Astronomia". Part of series of the Liberal Arts (7 pl). Antwerp, publ. by Anthonie Wierix, 1592. Engraving, 27 x 17,5 cm, laid paper, unsigned (trimmed within the borderline, sl. toned paper). Ref. New Hollstein (The Wierix family) IX:2004. (2 pcs)
