24mo: 422-[6-4 bl.] pp. (some very light occ. soiling).

Contemp. bordeaux morrocco, boards with triple gilt border "à la Du Seuil", gilt orn. spine with 4 raised bands (joints sl. rubbed), a.e.g., marbl. endpapers. Very good copy.

Second and best Elzevirian ed. (better printed and more correct) of this posthumous work by the French traveller Pierre Gilles (1490-1555), first publ. Lyon 1561. Engr. title with in lower part a nice small city view of Constantinople. This work is one of the first to describe (the history of) Byzantine and Ottoman Constantinople. Title and full text within red ruled borders.
