Sm. 8vo: [24]-496-[15] pp. (foxing, pp. 9-10 stained).
18th-c. calf, gilt orn. spine with raised bands, red edges (sm. traces of use, lower joint splitting).
Poetry of Vittoria Colonna (1492-1547) commented by Rinaldo Corso and edited by the humanist and writer Girolamo Ruscelli (ca. 1500-1566). The marchioness of Pescara Vittoria Colonna (1492-1547), wife of Fernando Francesco d'Ávalos, son of the marquese of Pescara, was one of the most famous Italian female poets of 16th century. Pietro Bembo, Marguerite de Navarre, Luigi Alamanni and Baldassare Castiglione were among her literary friends. After her husband's death, she became a very close friend of Michelangelo. Large printer's mark on title. Some ornamental initials.
