Contemp. half green shagreen with corners (bumped, rubbed), marbled paper on covers (rubbed), gilt orn. flat spine (joints rubbed and starting to split), marbled endpapers.
Very rare Brussels ed. of this early illustrated study of human sexuality and reproduction, with plates and comparative anatomical material supplied by the physiologist Martin Saint-Ange and sections on hygiene, sexuality and law supplied by the medical writer Grimaud de Caux. Ill. with 12 pl. in two states: 12 lithographic pl. and 12 steel engr. mounted on China paper. Text in two col. divided in three parts with a.o. chapters on the imagination during sexual activity, aphrodisiac substances, impotence and sterility, legal ethics and priestly celibacy.
