12mo: [6]-324 pp. (tears without lack, some foxing on pp. 99-100, some ff. sl. browned in 2nd part of the vol., occ. marg. staining, marg. wormhole to last ff.).
Contemp. calf, covers with central coat of arms of Duchess of Bourbon and Princess of Condé, gilt orn. spine with raised bands, sprinkled edges (sl. rubbed, joints splitting).
First edition of this work relating the story of Filippine Cabane, nicknamed the "Catanese", who thanks to her ambition succeeded to surpass her poor origin and to become the governess of Joanna I, Queen of Naples. Stayed at Joanna's side along her life, she suggested her to murder her husband Andrew, Duke of Calabria. She was arrested and tortured for her involvement. Her son, Robert de Cabane was Grand Seneshal of Sicily.
