19th-c. three-quarter red shagreen, gilt ruled red cloth covers, gilt orn. spine with raised bands.
Moralising work (1st ed.: Brussels, 1632) by the French author and dramatist Puget de La Serre (1600-1665). Illustrated with 6 fold. plates by Cornelis Galle: a frontispiece (a personification of Time revealing a painting showing a skeleton), a portrait of Henrietta Maria of France and 4 plates figuring humility examples from lives of ancient rulers (Philip II of Macedon, Saladin, Hadrian and the meeting of Diogenes and Alexander).
