Half red cloth with corners, marbled paper on covers, gilt orn. flat spines.
Second edition of this ornithological volume of the work "Natuurlijke historie van Nederland" (1st 1856-1862, in 7 parts). Illustrated with 53 lithographed pl. (n. 1-18 and 1-35) executed from drawings by the author, 40 coloured by hand and heightened with gum arabic. The first series of plates shows the birds in their different habitats, the second contains figures of heads and feet. The introduction of this work gives a general account of the group of birds, especially as regards their occurrence in different habitats. In this volume 278 species are enumerated as belonging to the fauna of the country. The main section is a systematic synopsis of the birds occuring in the Netherlands, dealing both with tame birds and those that have become wild.
