Large folio; title and 98 (of 100) pl. with tissue guards (lacking pl. 4 & 6; one margin of pl. 47 strengthened, margins frayed, occ. foxing, some pale marg. damp stains).

Contains a grey pictorial title and 98 photogravure plates in first issue figuring the canals and calli (typical Venice small streets and alleys): rio de Palazzo or de Canonica with the Ponte dei Sospiri, the Grand Canal, rios di San Apolan and San Pietro di Castello, the Giudecca Canal, etc. With an introduction by the art critic Pompeo Molmenti (1852-1928). The publisher and bookseller Ongania published more than 170 books, the majority on Venice. He had a shop on the Piazza San Marco.
