Lot description

Manuscript, 88 x 100 cm, coloured (minor defects).

Mounted on cloth.

Interesting manuscript map of Viersel and Zandhoven in the Antwerp Kempen featuring the Hovorst Castle, that had been the property of the noble family de Villegas since 1675, but was sold, in 1802, to Pierre Jean-Baptiste Antoine de Bruyn d'Hovorst, associate councillor and resident of Antwerp. It was he who demanded this extract from the cadastral plan by the proof engineer Gigaut. Particularly interesting is the identification of the landowners with their professions (lawyers, pharmacists, rentiers etc.) and places of residences (Antwerp, Lier, Leuven, Mechelen) and of the local farmers.

Prov. Jean Goujon (label on verso).
