Lot description

Coloured manuscript map on paper, black/brown ink and watercolour, visible dim. 32,2 x 41,8 cm (traces of use, stains, right side with missing part).

Framed, under passe-partout (not examined outside frame).

Very interesting and detailed map (with a lot of toponyms) depicting the layout and the environment of the nowadays disappeared Priory of Bethlehem. Founded at the beginning of the 15th c., the original buildings were completely rebuilt in the 18th c. Under the French occupation, the monastery was abolished and the buildings were sold as black goods. This map dates from before the great 18th-c. building campaign and can probably be dated around 1700.
