Old green morocco, triple gilt border on covers, gilt flat spine, a.e.g., gilt sides, gilt inside dentelles, marbl. endpapers (sl. rubbed, spine discoloured). Nice copy.

Very rare reprint of the 1570 edition of the French translation of the "Emblemata" by the Dutch physician and humanist H. Junius (1511-1575), first publ. in Latin in 1565. Illustrated with 57 emblems, as used in the Latin and Dutch editions, by G. Janssen van Kampen and A. Nicolai after G. Ballain and P. Huys. With an "explanation to some difficult emblems" on pp. 63-78. Woodcut mark on title. Ref.
