Folio, 2 parts in 1 vol.: [32]-402-[4]-[1 bl.], [16]-525-[1] pp. (last f. of both parts lacking, label torn off the title of 1st part, marginal dampstaining, heavier at the end of 2nd part, marg. ink stains to pp. 225-227 in pt. I, foxing in 2nd).
19th-c. three-quarter marbled sheep, blue marbled paper covers, spine on raised bands, mod. pastedowns and endpapers (covers and edges rubbed, label pasted on upper cover).
First edition of 1st part and 2nd edition of the second, of this work dealing with controversial issues between Catholics and Protestants. Tapper (1480-1559), chancellor of the University of Leuven, took an active part in the Inquisition and was sent by Charles V to the Council of Trent. Some ornamental initials (2 large & dotted).
