Lot description

4to: [24 incl. engr. title]-565-[62] pp.; 46 pl. (occ. marg. dampst. in lower marg., mostly affecting text ff., few spots throughout).

Contemp. vellum, blind-stamped boards, ink-titled spine with raised bands (some sm. stains on boards, sm. defect to spine, joints starting to split at the bottom, corners bumped, endpapers lifted).

Later 4to ed. (1st 1624) of the most important books of the German geographer and historian Philipp Clüver (1580-1622), founder of historical geography, annotated by J. Buno (1617-1697) and J. Reiske (1641-1701). Ill. with an allegorical engr. title, a title-vignette, 3 plates and 43 maps, incl. a world map and 4 continental maps. Partial map of Germany between the Rhine and the Elbe rivers partly coloured, map of Southeast Asia completely hand-coloured. With 2 fold. tables. Title in red & black.
