Lot description
2 brushes, incl. 1 in orig. box, brush holder in chromed metal with engraved Chinese characters, 1 Chinese ink stick decorated with a landscape in relief (stick broken with rests of orig. box, sl. traces of use).
In original blue silk brush holder (some foxing inside). Good condition.
This set belonged to Dom Pierre-Célestin Lou (1871-1949), a former minister of the Republic of China who became a Benedictine monk in a convent in Bruges, then abbot of St Peter in Ghent.
Prov. Lou Tseng-Tsiang (3 contemp. notes in French and Chinese rolled up with brushes and ink stick). - [Woman writer (†1964) and friend of Lou Tseng-Tsiang] (copy of a letter dated 23-10-1946 from Lou to a "Chère Madame" to whom he offered his brushes in gratitude for the gift of a pen).
