First edition of Sanson's atlas on Asia, published as part of his quarto atlases on the 4 continents. It contains 16 maps: 1 continental map and 15 partial maps (o.a. Anatolia, Persia, Mughal Empire, China, Japan, etc.), accompanied with an extensive geographical treaty. Most maps engraved by A. Peyrounin. Considered the "father of French cartography", N. Sanson (1600-1667) includes the newest discoveries of Maarten G. Vries and the reports of Jesuits' missions in his maps of Asia. Enriched with the map "Mer Noire ou Mer Maieure", from the 1683 ed. (ref. Sanson IIIF [19]). At the end, 2 pp. with a list of all the maps by Sanson and 1 p. with the privilege.
