Lot description

2 parts in 1 vol., folio, with continued pagination: [20]-1/330-[8]-331/1009-[3]-20 pp.; 2 pl.; enhanced with gouache and watercolour by a later hand (very occ. foxing, some quires ± browned, cancel pasted on p. 320, pp. 507-510 cut sl. askew, sm. missing of paper on p. 845 without loss of text, wormtrack in upper margin at the end of the vol., 1 marg. hole on title of pt. 2, a few non obtrusive holes on f. 6L6, some paper reinforcements without loss of text).

Contemp. marbled polished calf, gilt-orn. spine with raised bands, red edges (rubbed with somes scratches, joints starting to split, sm. traces of clear wax on upper board).

First edition of this genealogical work on Flanders by P. de L'Espinoy (1552-1633). Engr. ill. entirely hand-coloured incl. 2 pl. by M. Baes: front. showing the Virgin of Ghent and rare double-page pl. showing the Counts and high dignitaries of Flanders; num. in-text: printer"s mark on title, full-page coat of arms of the Archduchess Isabel, part-title in portico, 1 full-page pl. showing the Virgin of Ghent, 1 full-page plate showing the coat of arms of the author and +/- 1000 copper-engr. coats of arms in text.
