Very rare report on the Burma-China trade route. Ill. with a portrait of the Indian Army officer Edward Bosc Sladen (1831-1890), 2 large fold. maps (sketch map of the route of the expedition and a comprehensive map of further India and China) and 92 pl. (many folding) depicting Burmese decorative arts, costumed figures, views, etc.
Prov. Earl of Derby, most likely the 13th or 14th earl (both named Edward Smith-Stanley) (arm. bookpl. with the motto of the Order of the Garter).
