Lot description
Folio: [4] pp.; 58 (of 69) pl., borders hand-coloured (11 maps missing; marg. dampst., affecting edges of few maps, very few spots).
Contemp. mottled sheep over wooden boards, flat spine (corners, head and tail restored, joints rubbed).
Later, meticulously corrected and updated, edition of the magnus opus by the French hydrographer and nautical cartographer Après de Mannevillette (1707-1780). His atlas was considered an important resource for sailors navigating the Indian Ocean and Asia. The atlas contains 56 maritime maps and plans of harbours (many on double-page) of Asia and 2 pl. with coastal views.
