Autochrome is the first process in photography that made colour photography possible. The brothers Auguste and Louis Lumière applied for a patent for it in 1903. In 1907, autochromatic plates were first marketed. It was the main colour process before the appearance of film based on subtractive colour mixing in the mid-1930s.
