Albumen print, b/w, 21,5 x 28 cm, pasted on cardboard (mount soiled and def.).
Is this a staged scene set up by the photographer to illustrate an execution? Or is this a real execution during the Second Opium War? The British-born Saunders arrived in the late 1850s to China. He became the leading photographer in Shanghai during the late Qing dynasty.
