8vo: 460 pp. (missing Aii, missing lower (blank?) part of title).
Contemp. overl. vellum, covers with blindst. coat of arms, flat spine (covers sl. soiled, joints splitting, def. to head and tail).
Rare 2nd ed. and one of the oldest French treatises on dietetics by the physician and advisor to Henri IV and Louis XIII, chief physician of the armies and professor and dean of the faculty of medicine of Reims La Framboisière (1560-1636). Ill. with an engr. author's portrait. At the end of the Renaissance, under the influence of Ambroise Paré, medical science came to distinguish three practices: surgery, pharmacy and dietetics. This vernacular is an example of the growing importance of the latter.
