Lot description

41 photos, some loose, most pasted-in, captions in English in white ink, both panoramas detached, but majority of the multi-panelled composition loosely inserted.

Obl. 4to album.

A rather stunning photo album showing Kehlsteinhaus (Eagle's Nest) on top of the Kehlstein mountain in Berchtesgaden, Bavaria and the retreats of the Nazi elite in southeastern Germany. The album opens with views of "Haus Wackenfeld" (Hitler's first house) and "Der Berghof" (Hitler's second house) following with the Platterhof Hotel, Bornmann's house, Goring's house and photos of how this all looked after the bombing and occupation of the British Allied troups at the end of the war. The album ends with a whole section on the Eagle's Nest. It is unclear who made the album. We find some rare variations on the internet where a story goes that "the book was original presented to Lt. Col. George Henderson U.S. Army Commanding at Berchtesgaden, Germany in 1945 and was hand made by Herr Erhard Peltz, a member of AH’s house staff and Col. Henderson's house servant". The photos would be taken by Peltz. However we find albums with similar content that prove the album is not one of kind. We join some press articles from during the Second World War and later (1961 & 2015).
