Cont. blind-stamped pigskin over wood, bevelled edges, covers with rectangular figures (scenes from the life of the Holy Virgin) and ornamental stamps, spine on 3 raised bands, metal clasps and catches (sl. rubbed and soiled, sm. def. at lower bottom corner). Excellent copy.

Humanist Latin trsl.by the Swiss Protestant Walther (1519-1589) of the Onomasticon of Julius Pollux, a Greek scholar and rhetorician from Naucratis, Ancient Egypt (2nd c. AD). It is a Greek dictionary of Attic synonyms and phrases, arranged not alphabetically but according to subject-matter, in 10 books. It supplies in passing much rare and valuable information on many points of classical antiquity - objects in daily life, the theater, politics - and quotes numerous fragments of lost works.
