Lot description
Latin, vellum roll (c. 51 x 59 cm, plica 1-1,5 cm) with seal (attached with cloth ties, kept in a wooden box, ø 6,5 cm).
Franche-Comté and its University at Dole until 1676 was governed by Spanish Habsburg rulers. Many students from the Spanish Netherlands studied law (and French) at Dole. Gregorius de Weer[d] most probably was a relative of the Antwerp secretary Gregorius de Weert, married to Rubens’s niece Clara (daughter of Filips Rubens), or of his brother Joost, Antwerp city pensioner. Decoration: (top left) coloured arms, (top) initial name "Petrus Froissard" in large coloured capitals, (left & right margin) coloured floral border decoration within a red frame (c. 4,5 cm).
