4to: [22]-164 ff. (ms. entry hidden on title, cut short sometimes shaving running titles, upper corner with some words of f. 2 missing, very occ. sl. spotting, sl. or sm. (marg.) dampstaining).
Contemp. calf, spine with raised bands, chiselled gilt edges (rebacked and repairs on boards, very rubbed, joints split almost loose, cat. notices on lower board).
First edition of this popular universal chronicle, by the Belgian Benedictine (c. 1030-1112). The editor, Guillaume Parvy, confessor to Louis XII, and later bishop of Troyes and Senlis, was the first scholar to undertake the task of publishing the sources of medieval history from ancient manuscripts. Parvy has brought Sigebert’s Chronicon down to the year 1216 by adding the continuations of Geoffroy of Monmouth and Robert of Thorigny" (Schreiber). Printed in red and black.
