18th-c. polished calf, gilt spine on 4 raised bands (tail sl. def., front joint rubbed). Good copy.
Original edition of a standard work on Christian art and symbolism by the Louvain theologian J. Molanus (1533-1585). It proved to be an important source for Counter-Reformation iconography.
