3 vol., folio: [24 incl. front.]-396, [4 incl. front.]-706, [4 incl. front.]-723-[1 bl.-42] pp.; 110 pl. (occ., mostly marg., spotting, min. marg. soiling in first part of 3rd vol.).

Contemp. half sheep, mottled paper boards, spines with raised bands (tail of vol. 3 sl. damaged, joints and boards sl. rubbed, corners bumped). Large margined copy.

First edition of the Dutch translation of "Histoire des Provinces-Unies" (1728) by the Huguenot historian J. Le Clerc (1657-1736), famous for his edition of the works of Erasmus. Lavishly illustrated with engr. ill.: 3 different allegorical frontispieces by B. Picart, by I. v. Munnichuysen after G. de Lairesse and by A. Blooteling after W. Schellinkx, 3 title-vign. by B. Picart, 2 folding maps ("Algemeene kaart der Vereenigde Nederlanden" by Z. Châtelain, "Het blocqueeren van Amsterdam"), 57 full-page portraits (i.a. Louis XIV, William of Orange, Jacob I, Johan van Oldenbarnevelt, Oliver Cromwell, Richelieu, Albert & Isabella, Michiel de Ruyter) and 51 double-page or folding plates (i.a. "De groote gehoor-zaal", "Het doorbreeken van de St. Anthonis Dyk", "De twee broeders Jan en Kornelis de Wit in den Haag vermoord") by C. Decker, G. de Lairesse, J. Luyken en B. Picart.
