Contemp. calf, gilt-orn. spine with raised bands (very rubbed with scratching to lower board, joints part. split, head and tail missing).
First edition of this mystic work by a Provencal jesuit, Richeome (1544-1625), nicknamed "le Cicéron français" by his colleagues. Illustrated with an architectural front. by Thomas de Leu, showing allegories of Church and religion and King Henri IV and Marie de' Medici (with their coats of arms) adoring the Virgin and Child, and 14 full-page figures by Leonard Gaultier and Charles de Mallery.
