Folio: engr. title-[2]-36-[4] pp.; 65 pl. (sm. tear in fold. pl. (n. 3), sm. stain in marg. of pl. 20, 33, 34, 52, some sm. stains in pl. 47, tear in pl. of 38 restored on verso, ann. in an old hand on pl. 63, occ. spotting).
Contemp. mottled sheep, gilt-orn. spine with raised bands, red edges (spine and corners restored, few scratches on boards).
Second edition of this sumptuous funeral book (1st 1623 by Mommaert) celebrating the obsequies of Albert VII, Archduke of Austria (1559-1621), governor of the Spanish Netherlands. Text in Latin, French, Dutch and Spanish by the humanistic historian Puteanus (1574-1646). Ill. with the engr. title on double page (always dated 1623), 65 plates on double page except 2 fold. by Cornelis Galle, after Jacques Francquart, depicting the funeral procession, the carriage, the coffin and the 675 nobles and magistrates, all provided with name and title, participating in the procession. This later ed. also includes an engr. of the catafalque erected for Isabella, Albert II’s widow, not yet included in first ed.
