Very rare unique edition of a book for the use of colonists in French Guiana. It gives i.a. recipies and how to use certain sorts of food (manioc flour, fruits, cachiri - intoxicating alcoholic drink prepared from manioc -, cacao...), information on "moyens de voiturer ses marchandises", factories (sugar, indigo, cotton...), animals, hunting and fishing, slavery, etc., and with a plant and tree dictionary detailing a.o. their medical purposes. Illustrated with 7 fold. plates. Bruletout de Préfontaine († 1787) was a Colonel of infantry, commander of the Kourou district and in 1776 named commander of the norther part of French Guiana.

First edition of this Galibi dictionary, with an essay on the grammar by the agronomist La Salle (1700?-1765), adviser to the Presidial Court of Reims. The Galibi, now Carib or Kari'nja, was a language spoken by the Kalina people mostly in Guianas, Brazil and Venezuela.
