2 vol., 4to (pp. 225-228 and 237-240 missing in vol. II, marg. wormtracks and/or wormholes in both vol., sl. marg. damp stains, one larger at end of vol. I, some sl. soiling, strengthening to margin of p. [4] in vol. I, marg. staining to pp. 173-5 of vol. I, holes in text p. 435 vol. II).
Contemp. calf, gilt-orn. spines with raised bands (very rubbed, def.).
First edition of the "Centuria prima" and third edition of the second. Satyrical work often reprinted in which Apollo, established as judge on the Parnassus, receives complaints and accusations from ancient and contemporary princes, warriors and authors, giving the occasion for Boccalini to criticise the Italian, and more particularly, the Roman political life. A third century was published after the author's death in 1615 under the title of "Pietra del paragone politico". Printer's mark on titles.
