Very rare copy of a theology course (unpublished) given to the monks at the Benedictine abbey of Saint Hubert in the Ardennes. The title appears with the name of the author ("Professore R.do D. Hoffreumont in S.ti Huberti necnon S.ti Egidii vice pastore") in head of the text, preceded by a "Praefatio in theologiam. 12 Julii 1701. Theologicum cursum". At Leuven, where he entered in 1682, S. Hoffreumont (Verviers 1665-1737 Rijswijk) was a pupil and disciple of the Jansenists Huygens and Hennebel. He obtained his doctorate in theology in 1690 and was appointed the same year to the vicarage of Saint Gilles (= St Egide) in the city of Saint-Hubert. He exercised his pastoral ministry there while giving theology lessons to the young monks of the neighbouring abbey. In 1705, he became the parish priest of Grâce and was one of the few priests in the diocese of Liège (to which St Hubert also belonged) to refuse to submit to the "Unigenitus" bull condemning Jansenism. He was finally forced into exile in Holland, where he continued to teach theology and published "La faillibilité des papes dans les décisions dogmatiques" 1720).
