Lot description

16mo: 854-[66] pp. (toned, some dampstaining and min. soiling).

Contemp. limp overl. vellum, flat spine, remains of ties (endpapers lifted, sm. def. at top edge of front cover). Good copy.

Rare Lyon ed. of the "Roman Antiquities" of the Greek historian Dionysius of Halicarnassus (1st c. BC) in the Latin version by the German humanist Sigismund Gelenius (1497-1554), a corrector at the Froben Press and occasional collaborator of Erasmus. The ed. was printed by Symphorien Barbier and issued by various publishers. Woodcut mark on title.
