Second edition (1st 1585) of this account of Philip II's conquest of Portugal by the Genoese diplomat Conestaggio (d. 1635). It contains interesting information on Portuguese colonisation in Africa and Asia, particularly China, Japan and India, with details on Jesuits activities, the discovery by Columbus, a description of Brazil, troubles in France, etc. According to some bibliographies, the author used a pseudonym concealing the descendant of one of Portugal's most illustrious families, Joao Gomez da Silva, Count of Portalegre, Spanish ambassador.
