Mod. blind-decorated vellum-covered boards, covers with blind Aldine device and fleurons, titled flat spine, tiny cord ties. Very good copy.
First Aldine edition of Statius (2nd 1517), complete with Manutius’ adjuration against plagiarism ("no one is allowed to print this unpunished - BEWARE!"), Statius’ poems and the Orthographia (a list of Greek terms found in Statius, as usual bound at the beginning). Printed in Greek and Latin in a single column, this edition of Statius is an excellent example of the splendid italic font designed by Pietro Bembo. Aldine mark (e8r). Printed in italics. Capital spaces with guide-letters.
