Lot description

8vo: [8 incl. engr. title]-288-[8] pp.; 16 pl. (2 tiny wormholes throughout first part, light dampst. on first 3 ff., occ. spotting).

Contemp. vellum, ink-titled flat spine (sl. soiled, sm. stain on back cover).

Later edition of the translation (1st 1593, 1st transl. 1644) of the standard work on Renaissance iconology by the iconographer from Perugia Ripa (1560?-1622). It describes the attributes and symbols of the elements, the seasons, rivers, Muses, virtues and abstract qualities. Ill. with 16 pl. with 12 emblems each.
